About the conference

The Institute for Sustainable Futures (ISF) at De Montfort University hosted its inaugural annual conference in 2025, focusing on resilient and sustainable communities and cities. Since then, intensifying geopolitical tensions, climate‑related disruptions, and widening social inequalities have further challenged the stability of urban living. These developments underscore the urgent need to reimagine urban futures and rethink how cities can thrive within planetary boundaries.

Building on last year’s momentum, the 2026 conference invites scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and community innovators to explore how cities can become regenerative, inclusive, and climate‑resilient in an era of profound change. We welcome multi-disciplinary contributions that advance understanding of future urban living and reinforce the resilience of both cities and the planet. Contributions from engineering and computing, architecture, arts and humanities, social sciences, and business disciplines are welcome.

Aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, for which DMU serves as the UNAI Global Hub, the conference aims to:

  • Exchange bold, innovative ideas that push the boundaries of current knowledge
  • Share best practices, strategies, and transformative urban solutions
  • Build networks that foster collaboration, co‑creation, and long‑term partnerships
